The Background

A network of agro-dealers that practice strong business and financial management, feature a more informed sales staff, and actively reach out and engage farmer customers will support improved farmer performance more quickly. Concurrently, it will also attract and channel investment from international suppliers – helping to improve the range, quality, and cost effectiveness of products, services, and farming information available and accessible to farmers in Liberia over the long-term.

It is with this purpose that GROW launched the Agro-Dealer Development Program in 2018. The Agro-Dealer Development Program is designed

 

to jumpstart agro-input industry performance by professionalizing and strengthening agro-dealers. It is one piece of GROW’s systemic investment in the industry.

The Agro-Dealer Development Program – The Blitz is a 9-month program designed to professionalize agro-dealers while also expanding the quality and frequency of farmer customer engagement and sales. The Program employs performance-based incentives – offering marketing budget contingent on business and product knowledge performance
improvements.

 
 
 

The Job

GROW seeks a skilled agronomist to support product and practice training alongside marketing and promotions tied to
the Agro-Dealer Development Program – The Blitz.

Advise and develop training programs for fertilizer, seeds, and insecticide – utilizing best-practice content wherever
possible.

Outputs include:

  • Content development, based on current sales/product availability
  • Training, visit, and promotional schedule
  • o Training delivery (classroom, one-on-one, practical/field techniques required)
  • Supporting materials (guides, pictures, audio)
  • Follow-up engagement with agro-dealers and farmers
  • Collaboration with major suppliers and distributors

Set-up demo plots (“farm sales points”):

  • Selection of locations and product features
  • Set-up, promotions, training schedule and delivery
  • Follow-up engagement with agro-dealers and farmers

Complete marketing and promotional events and activities:

  • Advise influencers and groups
  • Advise farmers – visiting top 10 customers per agro-dealer
  • Lead product awareness and advisory support to customers, farmers, and influencers
  • Support shops’ launch
  • Advise agro-dealers on sales and farmer engagement strategies

Advise and support GROW team and partners as needed.

GROW Senior Intervention Manager – Agro-Inputs [Kelvin Doesieh]

Timeframe:

1 June 2018 – 31 December 2018. Likely to be extended.

Location:

Monrovia, with extensive (about 70%) travel throughout Liberia

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in agriculture/agronomy or related field, focus on tropical agricultural an advantage.

3-5 years of experience in working with horticulture smallholder farmers.

Sales experience

The candidate will need to show evidence of the following:

Knowledge of the agricultural sector and ability to work with small farmers.

Organizational and time management skills.

Ability to work under pressure.

Supervisory skills and management ability.

Self-motivation and the ability to motivate others.

Willingness to work in remote areas of Liberia
